Cases
Lady Lazar
A psychiatric hospital scene from the film Lady Lazar directed by Elizaveta Filipova. Animated by Polina Komyagina.

"Lady Lazar" animated shot film

Visuals and animation of one scene.

Commissioned by Elizaveta Filipova, film director

In early 2024, animation director Elizaveta Filipova entrusted me with visually designing and animating a scene for her upcoming animated film "Lady Lazar," which tells the story of American poet Sylvia Plath. Based on the script, animatic, and shot lists, I had to develop the visual concept for the scene set in a psychiatric hospital, create a collage model of Sylvia Plath, and animate a withering flower. For the hospital interior, I used authentic photographs of psychiatric clinics from that era in America. Sylvia's straitjacket was made from scraps of paper, gradually revealing her poems. The flower animation was done in Adobe Premiere.
P.S. In the video on the left, the scene is presented without post-processing. To see the final result, please wait for the film release.
Hiroshima
Music video by Polina Komyagina for Vadim Petrenko's track "Hiroshima

"HIROSHIMA" music video

Project from scratch: directing, editing, visual effects.

Commissioned by Vadim Petrenko, experimental musician.

In 2023, I embarked on a challenging project to visualize Vadim Petrenko's music piece "Hiroshima." The composition's complexity and depth evoked images of the sea in my mind. To capture this essence, I filmed various scenes of the Adriatic Sea at different times of the day and from different angles. Through dynamic editing and special effects, I transformed these visuals into an abstract representation, mirroring the intricate layers of the music itself. Despite the title's connotations, my focus was on personal interpretation rather than historical context. The resulting video was featured in the parallel program of the Neum Underwater Festival.
Uroboros
Video art by Polina Komyagina created for the season-opening party at Klub Kotac, Pula, in 2019.

"UROBOROS" animated video

Visual accompaniment for DJs performance at Kotac nightclub.

Commissioned by Rojc Alliance, NGO.

This video was created as part of my volunteering project at the cultural center ROJC in Pula, Croatia. Club Kotac, a resident of Rojc, was organizing a season-opening party and approached me to create visuals for the event. My task was to design a looped video to be projected onto the building's wall during the DJs' performance. I immediately connected the idea of the club's re-opening with the nature of a video loop, both symbolizing a continuous cycle of renewal. This idea inspired the final video titled 'Uroboros,' depicting a snake biting its tail, an ancient symbol of eternity. Apart from this mythology, the video primarily consists of dynamic and colorful visuals. Recognizing that club-goers come to dance and unwind, I aimed to avoid overloading the visuals with complex meanings. Instead, I focused on creating something authentic and visually captivating.
P.S. Since the video aimed to accompany DJs, it was initially created without sound. The audio was added afterward for publication on YouTube.
